Youth Practical First Aid – Caherdavin

Offered specifically for young people aged 14-16 years, the Irish Red Cross Practical First Aid Course provides participants with a thorough grounding in the fundamental knowledge and skills of First Aid over 12 – 14 weeks.

Topics covered include:

– How to approach the scene of an accident
– Choking and C.P.R.
– Wound Care
– Burns
– Poisoning
– Unconsciousness
– Fractures
– Sports Injuries
– Paediatric emergencies

Upon successful completion of the course, which does not have an examination, but is based on attendance and participation throughout the course, participants receive an Irish Red Cross Certificate in Practical First Aid. The certificate is valid for two years.

The Practical First Aid Certificate is also the minimum requirement for admission to further first aid training courses within the Red Cross and many of the young people who sit this course stay with the Red Cross after the course.
